Ellerstina Polo Team

Review

Ellerstina claim title in breathtaking final

Ellerstina won the Tortugas Open, after beating El Paraiso 14-13 in extra chukker, with a golden goal by Facundo Pieres, who converted a penalty from the spot. It's the second time the Pieres and MacDonough squad obtains the first tournament of the Triple Crown. The first time was in 2005.

It was an intense match, which could be taken into two parts. The first part had Ellerstina taking control of the action, starting with a goal by Pablo MacDonough with only a minute and a half. An even more powerful Ellerstina came by the second chukker, leading 4-1, and taking a 4-2 advantage at the end of the third period.

Things changed in the fourth chukker, as El Paraiso took a 3-0 lead, which meant a 5-5 tie in the general score. Since that moment, both teams went back and forth, with each of them scoring goals, which finally led to four consecutive ties in the next four chukkers. During the seventh chukker, Ellerstina and El Paraiso scored three goals each, to finally get a 13-13 tie, and the way to extra time, in which Facundo Pieres converted a penalty from the spot, which sealed the final result and put Ellerstina back at the top.
