Review

Second big step for Ellerstina

Ellerstina beat La Dolfina 15-12 in the final of the Hurlingham Open, and obtained the second step towards the Triple Crown, in a game with a bit of surprises…

The start saw La Dolfina taking control of the action, playing more powerful polo, which took them to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first chukker. Ellerstina just needed to heat up a bit, which they did in the second chukker to get a tie first (2-2) and next their first leading (3-2), but finally the second period ended up with a 4-4 tie.

The unexpected was about to come around with two minutes to go in the third chukker. La Dolfina, who just missed Lucas Monteverde, injured in the semifinal against Chapa Uno and substituted in the final by Matias Magrini, had to resign their main man, Adolfo Cambiaso, who left the field due to an injury in his leg. He was replaced by Brazilian Rodrigo Andrade (7).

Without Cambiaso, La Dolfina came closer to the score, with a tight lead for Ellerstina at the end of the sixth chukker (10-9). Then, Cambiaso made a comeback to play the two last periods, but that was when Ellerstina, led by top scorer, the fabulous Facundo Pieres, obtained the big difference which allowed them to win their second title of the current Triple Crown.
