Ellerstina retain title

After the rain delay, and in a bright sunny spring day, Ellerstina and La Aguada Arelauquen met to play the Tortugas Open final, in which the boys in black beat the Novillo Astrada brothers 13-9, to retain the title they obtained in 2007, the first step of the Triple Crown.

La Aguada Arelauquen had a better start, as they shot into an early 3-0 lead in the first chukker, which extended to 4-2 at the end of the second period, But Ellerstina, with Pablo MacDonough back in action as he recovered from an injury in his right shoulder, began to close the gap in the third chukker. They managed to even the score to 5-5, a result sealed by a great goal by Juan Martin Nero.

After a balanced fourth chukker and a new tie - 6-6 - Ellerstina made a comeback and scored to get their first lead at the start of the fifth period - 7-6 and by the end of it they were ahead 9-6.

Ellerstina, supported in the superiority of their horse string, continued their way to the title in the sixth chukker, led by a great performance by Facundo Pieres, the team´s key man and top scorer with seven goals. They scored four more goals - three by Facundo and one by brother Gonzalo, to make it 12-6. Meanwhile, La Aguada Arelauquen seemed lost and could do nothing against a stronger Ellerstina.

La Aguada Arelauquen made a last effort in the seventh chukker to close the gap, but the three goals courtesy by Javier (2) and Miguel Novillo Astrada weren´t enough as the final result was sealed. Ellerstina dominated the second half of the match and that was enough to claim the final 13-9 victory to win the Tortugas Open once again. Such a great start for Ellerstina, as they look ahead of their biggest goal: Palermo.
